Continuing on with my day at USJ. Now walking through an area that supposedly replicates certain landmarks from America.
A replica of Fisherman’s Wharf in California. Can someone who has been there tell me how accurate it is?
The Lost World section where you can buy a turkey drumstick, probably the only place in Japan where you can get turkey. And only a drumstick at that. I was curious about trying it but not 700 yen worth of curiosity ^^;.
Robo dino for people to pet. This seem to be the only one in the area though. No petting T-rex?
I forgot the name of this area but it was themed after Jaws. Stopped by for a chicken curry calzone after all that walking and waiting. Amusement park food usually charge you a ludicrous price for worse-than-mediocre food but this was surprisingly good.
Merry Christmas to you too, Jaws. You jolly fellow.
Am I the only person who doesn’t relate “Universal Studios” with Elmo and Snoopy? And for that matter, Hello Kitty as well.
Doing some more waiting to see this show.
KHANNNNNN!!!
Just a guess but I think this is a replica of Hollywood.
These dolls are not creepy at all. Nope.
The show was exactly what the title said: A rock and roll concert with Dracula, Wolfy, Franky, and a few others. Hosted by Beetle Juice who speaks Japanese. No photo allowed after show started ^^;.
One of the more surprising things I noticed in Japan is that Spidey is very popular here, especially with girls. It’s not uncommon to see some of them with Spidey accessories or even clothes walking around.
It’s been forever since I had pizza. Seeing how this place serves “New York style Pizza”, I couldn’t help but to put it to the test. I used to live in NYC after all. Well, the size was definitely off for being a NYC “style” pizza and the “Christmas tree” pizza was definitely not something I would find in America. The pepperoni slice somewhat taste the part. At the end, not disappointed I supposed. Oh how I miss the pizza from NYC…
Elmo getting jiggy with it with the Universal Boys or whatever this boy band is called.
Looks a bit like Arkham City here but cleaned up…
I thought this was a ride but apparently it was just a 3D movie? Didn’t go in though since the next one starts in two hours.
So we opted for the Space Fantasy instead. The whole inside was like a sci-fi spaceship but I wasn’t able to snap any photos as we had to lock away our stuff (bags and all) in a locker before we could even get in line (apparently because the ride is just that violent). The ride itself was a two-person roller coaster that rotates as it runs so you’re spinning as you go through the galaxy, watching stars and finally reaching the “sun” , a giant ball-shaped room with the “walls” covered completely in light bulbs (or mirrors, couldn’t tell) with a giant disco ball in the center. It was an epic ride. Heck, why did I even bother describing the ride. Video explains it so much better
For those who have seen Gundam SEED… is it just me or does the narrator really sound like Lacus Clyne?
Who knew going out to the galaxy and back could take so long. It became this dark by the time we returned to Earth. At least it didn’t take as long as Noriko in Gunbuster… that would’ve been bad.
Browsing through a souvenir shop. More Spidey stuff.
By this time it was really chilly and started to rain. Still… I didn’t want to miss the lighting up of the Christmas tree and fireworks :) So many people were already gathered around the area that it was impossible to get to the tree.
Well time to head home. It was starting to pour…
But not before stopping at the Takoyaki Museum first! An area filled with nothing but takoyaki shops!
Takoyaki Takoyaki Takoyaki!
Takoyaki GET!
So that was a rather fun day. Would’ve liked to stay to longer if it wasn’t for the rain and cold. Coming here in December has its charm as the Christmas decoration makes the place look a tad more “magical” than normal. The downside is that even if your day wasn’t cut short by rain, it is no fun standing outside in the cold waiting for a ride. There were also some things that I didn’t get to try like the roller coaster (“Jet coaster” ジェットコースター in Japanese) but was already too cold and rainy by the time we got out of the Space Fantasy. Guess I was a bit optimistic when I thought I could ride everything in one day XD. Ah well… there is always next time I supposed.

Love the trees and greenery they have around the Jurassic Park ride. Did you take the Jurassic Park ride? Looks like you could get… wet. XD
Elmo, Snoopy, Hello Kitty (and Pink Panther) are the Mount Rushmore of Universal Studios Japan, that’s why they are everywhere. ^^
The doll at the back (middle) is the creepiest of the 3. They are the exact opposite appeal of Volks’ Dollfie line, despite being the same kind of toys. ^^;
Will check the Space Fantasy ride video later. Can’t access Youtube at work. ^^;
Takoyaki! I could do without the mayonnaise though.
Do you know what is the closing time? I wonder how many 6000 yen it takes to see all the rides…..

Yeah, it sounds really like Lacus Clyne but it’s not her I think. Just the soft voice and the accent that is similar desu wa~

The overwinding and encouraging speech style was also convincing as well xD

They have an annual pass that cost around 15000 yen so you can go as many times as you want to get through everything. However, I think if you go from opening and stay till closing (I believe 10 pm), you can get through everything in two days on an off-day like Tuesday and Wednesday.
I wouldn’t have opposed to riding the Jurassic Park ride but my friend didn’t want to because it was really cold and yes… we would’ve gotten wet ^^; Though I heard they give you a plastic raincoat for your clothes but eh. Some other day.

The first shot posted of “Fisherman’s Wharf” is spot on, I thought it was an actual shot from San Francisco.

Oh cool! Thanks for the confirm :D

I’ve went to Universal Studio once…iirc
didn’t enjoy anything in it : /” (nah, it’s just me, i don’t enjoy parks and/or places filled with lots of people)
but I heard from my friends that this is the most enjoyful amusement parks around asia here o.o

Wow really? That sucks. I don’t like crowded places either, especially ones full of tourists but even I had a good time without being about to do all that much :D calling it the best might be stretching it a bit though xD

It looks really fun, but I think the one in LA is bigger and way more fun. Minus the cool takoyaki museum and better food served in the JP version. I think the shots of “SF” are a bit romanticized to be honest. Some parts, like the crab sign, are more real, but other than the super touristy Pier 39 area, Fisherman’s Wharf doesn’t really look like that.

Ah I see. I supposed it would be a bit romanticized since it is inside a theme park after all ^^;. I would like to check out the place myself once I go back to the states.
